After launching more than two years ago, Valheim quickly became a huge success which obviously led to the creation of thousands of mods for the game.

Despite a huge plethora of mods to choose from, not all of them are necessarily great. Some offer additional content to the game in various forms while others focus entirely on quality of life (QoL) aspects. But choosing the right ones for you can prove challenging given the sheer amount, so let me help you out by showing you some of the most popular Valheim mods that you can try out right now.

EpicLoot

Itemization in Valheim is pretty straightforward. Every biome has its own set of resources that you will have to gather in order to make weapons and armor. While there are plenty of options available, sometimes it feels like something is missing. EpicLoot steps in to fix that by adding magical rarities to items.

There are four rarities that should sound familiar, namely Magic, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Each of these can roll varying amounts of stats and numbers for those particular stats. The list of stats is quite extensive, ranging from direct damage buffs all the way to special effects like Glowing, FreeFall, and much more.

The main issue with this mod is the fact that it can quickly make things seem too easy. Once you get your hands on some decently rolled items, combat might start feeling a bit boring. In order to fix these you can either increase the difficulty level from the world settings or simply add some other mods that increase the difficulty in various ways.

Alongside items that will randomly drop from enemies, the mod also offers an Enchanting Table. The Enchanting Table can be upgraded to do multiple things, which include being able to reroll certain stats from an item or convert crafting materials to their superior variants.

CreatureLevelAndLootControl

Speaking of difficulty, this mod is a perfect fit with EpicLoot. What it basically does is allow creatures in the world to have up to five stars instead of the regular two. If this sounds like too much, don’t be scared. The mod itself will progressively allow creatures to have more and more stars, ensuring that you don’t have to face a five-star enemy when it would be impossible to deal with. You can also fully tweak all of these settings to make things harder or easier, depending on your preferences.

If this sounds too much, you should know that the mod balances things out. For example, Fulings clearly have their damage outputs tweaked even when they have more than two stars. Since Fulings usually swarm you with numbers, this makes sense.

EquipmentAndQuickSlots

This is a pretty straightforward mod that does offer a great boon to players. Namely, you will get four extra slots where you will equip your armor and utility items. You also get three more slots that can be assigned to a Hotkey. These can be used for consumables like potions or food and even different types of arrows that you can switch between. While it won’t make your character stronger in any direct way, an additional seven slots for loot is still a huge deal in Valheim.

Cooking

For those of you with a passion for the culinary parts of the game, Cooking is the ideal mod. Simply put, this mod adds a new skill to the game, which is called Cooking. When you raise its level, the Cooking skill will give the food that you cook bonuses to the Health and Stamina buffs that they offer. The mod is especially useful for multiplayer servers where you can have one of the players dedicated to cooking while having access to all the resources from multiple players. Bon Appetit.

OdinArchitect

While the base game has plenty of building options that you can mix and match all you want, plenty of players want more. OdinArchitect adds a new building hammer into the game called the Odin Hammer. When using it, you will gain access to a wide variety of building blocks and ornaments. If you’re really trying to make your base look more unique compared to the standard rectangular house, OdinArchitect will give you plenty of options to choose from. Just be careful about adding other building mods since they can interfere with each other and stop working entirely.

ValheimRaft

Even though we might have to wait a while longer before we finally get a patch that brings new boats and ocean content, modders are busy at work trying to fix this. ValheimRaft gives you some new building options that will help you in building a mobile base. After building a basic raft, you can basically add any type of block on top of it. All you have to pay attention to is your overall weight and how many sails you’re going to need to keep it moving.

If you’re interested in a fast boat, you should probably stick to wood even though your boat won’t be able to take a lot of hits. So, if you’re interested in taking down sea serpents, you should try building a boat with a tough exterior made from stone. This will ensure that it can take plenty of punishment while giving you ample time to take down your attacker.

MassFarming

Another quite simple mod that offers some great QoL benefits, MassFarming is a mod that you won’t be able to play without once you’ve tried it. Simply put, it gives your character the ability to plant and gather en masse. Keep in mind, though, that everything you plant will still take up stamina, so make sure to eat some stamina food before you start. So if you always felt like farming is quite a boring task, definitely give this mod a try.
