A wave of Facebook page removals have admins confused with this message: “We have removed your Page from Facebook”

It seems like in the past 24 hours, multiple Facebook page admins have been reporting page removal notifications.

If you own a Facebook page and just woke up with a notification reading “We’ve removed your Page because it doesn’t follow our Community Standards.”, don’t worry, you’re not the only one. In the past couple of days, there has been a wave of page removal notifications from Facebook to page admins across the world. The main reason for this is that the page in question does not follow Facebook’s Community Standards. Here is what the full notification reads after you make an appeal:

We have removed your Page from Facebook

What happened?

Your appeal was reviewed and we confirmed that your Page goes against our Community Standards for misrepresentation.

What you can do

You can go to Account Status to review and respond to any restrictions and find more resources.
You may have the right to challenge our decision in your country’s courts. You may also be able to refer our decision to a certified dispute settlement body.

So, this has something to do with “misrepresentation”, one of Facebook’s many Community Standards, that’s pretty vague or can be interpretable in various ways. Some of the listed standards probably triggered Facebook’s algorithms, thus taking down your page. It’s possible that one or multiple users have reported your page for some reason, or it can signify an update in Facebook’s community standards. It can also mean a bug or technical error from the social media giant, like we’ve seen before.

The scary part is that you cannot do anything about this, apart from lawyering up and going to court with Facebook (good luck with that). On the other hand, some Facebook page admins reported on Reddit that after the first notification and appeal, their pages were not removed. In fact, they even appeared to be in good health marked as “Page has no issues” in the Facebook page quality section. This may be a mistake on Facebook’s end, or they might have increased the rules for Community Standards.

Going off into a bit of speculation here, the 2024 United States election is just around the corner, on Tuesday, November 5. This might be the reason for pages being taken down recently after a number of controversies Facebook found itself in the past. We can’t know for sure what the reason behind this Facebook page removal wave is, all we can do as Facebook admins is to respect the Community Standards.

Stay tuned to this article, as I will post updates regarding this ongoing Facebook issue that affects all of us page admins across the world.
