One of the larger cities from Project Zomboid, Muldraugh has plenty of important locations, even though that comes at the cost of a pretty sizeable zombie population.

When Project Zomboid first started out more than 10 years ago, Muldraugh was the only available town in those early days. And it wasn’t even the complete version that is present nowadays in the game. But a lot has changed over time, and the map has expanded immensely, with even further expansion on the horizon. So let’s discuss a bit about Muldraugh and some of the best places to hit when looting it.

General Tips and Tricks

A full map of Muldraugh from Project Zomboid.

Muldraugh is situated in the southern part of the map, making it easily accessible from multiple areas except the distant Louisville located on the far eastern part of the map. It’s a pretty large town, with a main street that encompasses most of its length. Throughout this main street you’ll find a ton of interesting buildings that can be looted, but beware. The main street is one of the most populated areas of the town, so you’ll have to deal with plenty of hordes if you want access to those buildings. Overall the zombie population of the town is medium-high, obviously depending on your sandbox settings as well.

One of the easiest tricks that are specific to this town is related to the main street. If you take a closer look at the map, you’ll notice that the main street has a parallel street located to its north with plenty of trees separating the two. If you have access to a car, this can give you an easy way of clearing some of the zombies from the main street. Simply take your car all the way through that parallel street with the horn honking non-stop. Or to make things simpler use a car that has a siren like a police car or ambulance. This will draw most of the zombies to this street. And since both are separated by trees they won’t be able to see you as you make your way across the main street with impunity. Just make sure to not rush things and actually give them some time to relocate.

Points of Interest

Cortman Medical

In the south of Muldraugh, Cortman Medical is a clinic where you can get your hands on some needed medical supplies. To its north there is also a Convenience Store where you can land some food. To the west of both of these buildings, there is a small neighborhood of houses, all of them separated by tall fences. This can be an excellent place to base, especially in multiplayer. Since all of the houses are connected through tall fences, barricading all the exits to your little cul-de-sac is very simple.

Small Storage Facility

Situated in the southwestern part of the town, this Storage Facility is a great place to find some interesting items. Even though the contents of the lockers are completely randomized, you’re bound to find at least a generator and some great pieces of furniture. And since it’s not located near the main street, there should be a rather small number of zombies that can be easily taken care of.

Warehouses

These warehouses can be found to the west of the Small Storage Facility I mentioned above. Clearing them of any zombie presence will give you access to a ton of viable weapons like metal bars and crowbars. You’ll also find a decent amount of tools, nails, and planks, making it a great spot to hit if you’re interested in building your own base or simply improving one. Don’t forget that you can try picking up wooden boxes in order to place them in your own base, as long as you have a good enough carpentry skill. Otherwise, your chances of picking them up intact will be slim to none.

Police Station

Sadly, although Muldraugh is a rather large town, its Police Station is rather small. Clearing it is still worth it since you’ll get your hands on a few guns and ammo, as well as some useful police gear like bags and armor. If you’re lucky you might also get your hands on a Police Car to enact the main street trick that I mentioned earlier. There is also a VHS Store located to the northwest of this building, where you can find some useful VHS tapes that will raise your skills. The only real problem with reaching it is the fact that it’s located on the main street, so make sure to sneak inside if you don’t want a horde jumping you.

The McCoy Logging Corp.

While it’s not really located in Muldraugh, it’s close enough that it counts. Located a few hundred meters to the northeast of the town, this place is full of warehouses and trailers filled with wood. The amount of planks that you can find here is a great find for those of you who want to build their own base without having to chop down half a forest. And inside those warehouses, you’ll find plenty of wooden crates filled to the brim with useful tools, weapons, and a wide range of building materials including metal sheets which are a must for any mechanics enthusiast. After hitting this place if you’re still hungry for more tools or materials, there is an even bigger complex of warehouses located to the northwest of Muldraugh.
