With cloud gaming finally becoming a reality that actually works, it seems that Netflix is eyeing the market as well.

Netflix have just released a gaming service as a beta platform, currently only working on select TVs in UK and Canada. If everything pans out to their liking, they’ve promised to expand and make this service widely available, including workable versions for PC and Mac. Users that are currently playing on their TVs only require a smartphone to enjoy the games. You will also require one of the following devices actually to be able to run their service:

  • Any Amazon Fire TV streaming devices
  • NVIDIA Shield TV
  • Any Roku TVs or devices
  • New models of LG and Samsung Smart TVs
  • The Walmart ONN
  • Chromecast but solely when paired up with Google TV

These won’t be the only compatible devices, with more to follow very soon. Netflix VP Mike Verdu had this to say about their future plans for this service:

“We’ve been focused on creating a great gaming experience for our members since 2021 when we added mobile games to Netflix. Our goal has always been to have a game for everyone, and we are working hard to meet members where they are with an accessible, smooth, and ubiquitous service.”

While currently only the indie titles Oxenfree and Mining Adventure can be played, Netflix is gearing up for some bigger titles. They are currently working on a multiplatform AAA title at a new studio they created in California. Heading up this project is Chacko Sonny, a former executive producer for Overwatch.
